IgA nephropathy (IgAN), also known as Berger’s disease, is a kidney disease caused by a buildup of abnormal IgA antibodies. It may lead to kidney damage or kidney failure over time.
Treatment can slow the progress of the disease and prevent or delay chronic renal failure. Treatment for IgAN includes medication to remove the extra fluid with a diuretic, and lower kidney inflammation with prescribed steroids such as prednisone or cyclophosphamide.
